Background
About Matthys Loedolff
As a graduate from The University of Western Australia (UWA), with a research based doctorate (PhD), I continuously learned and developed new skills while having a focus on quality and attention to detail. I published in peer-reviewed academic journals, gave oral presentations at international conferences and maintained a strong work ethic while having a tenacity for health and safety. After completing my studies I gained invaluable experience working in technical roles at Murdoch University and UWA. I am a strong advocate for improving the student experience at university level and have a tenacity for health and safety. I have a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of Chemistry and Material Sciences. I am well versed in modern analytical techniques, such as TEM, STEM, EDS (EDX), SEM, powder XRD, NMR, FTIR, ICP-OES, GCMS, Temperature-Programmed-Reduction (TPR) analysis, and BET/BJH analysis. Consequently, I am familiar with instrument and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. I also have experience in operating and maintaining an inert dry (glove) box. I have knowledge and experience working with safety management systems, and am part of the Bayliss Building Safety Committee. I have significant experience surrounding the preparation and running of undergraduate laboratories of different levels and always aim to improve the student experience. Some of the other practical skills and knowledge I have acquired over time include the safe handling of various hazardous substances, handling and transfer of cryogenic materials such as dry ice and liquid nitrogen, and also the storage and handling of compressed gas cylinders. In my spare time I enjoy woodworking, cycling, and home improvement projects.
