About Matty Knox

Born and raised in Tasmania I have a passion for community and place. I am constantly looking for new opportunities to showcase the strengths of my island home, as well as the people in it. I believe connections to both land and people are integral in a flourishing society and am always open to new ideas. While working in the Office of the Academic Executive Director at the University of Tasmania I have had the opportunity to diversify my skillset and engage with exciting initiatives such as the Open Universities Australia Project where I work with a team to manage portfolios and relationships. At UTAS I've also been lucky enough to lead and share research on the well-being of students, leadership behaviours, and social innovation. After publishing with an international team on how COVID-19 continues to make its impact, the Students as Partners initiative was enacted through the Tasmanian University Student Association. Currently, I am continuing my research on the student experience, looking at how constructs like Psychological Capital and the Impostor Phenomenon affect student wellbeing During my first year at UTAS I concurrently co-founded a coventure based in Launceston Tasmania, Negat-ve Distillery. Our mission at Negat-ve is to make the world a better place by modifying outdated processes. We use an Alage "Phytobioreactor"(big clear vessel full of algae) to capture and reverse our emissions, making our carbon footprint. negative! I manage the Negat-ve brand. I also act as a bootleg-scientist, monitoring our alage process and investigating innovations to continue our mission to save the world, one g+t at a time.
