About Matty Morris

I am an advocate for marginalised communities, especially the youth within them. I began my journey within this work last year in August with Just Like Us. Going to schools to teach them about what it is like to grow up LGBT+ and some basic definitions and more. Giving them the skills and knowledge to be better people or figure themselves out too. In January 2023 I signed up for Safe Spaces with Comics Youth and we made an event that happened in March 2023. I learned a lot within those months on how to make an event, and do it to an effective standard. I made the signposting, hosted and created the Quiet Space and co-created inclusive policies for the space. In July 2023 I signed up for Marginal Changemakers with Comics Youth's publishing house, Marginal Publishing. This is a national campaign within the UK aimed at publications on why they should listen to marginalised youth voices. I learnt how to make a campaign, a charter, and how to do it all to a very high quality. I had connection to YPAS for a while and that opened up the way to be included within the Youth Panel Pilot with NHS greater manchester mental health. Being a voice for young people within the interviewing process means a lot and I gained a lot of skills from this experience. I also did join Young Ambassadors to volunteer my time to support people like me and give back to the community.Eventually this lead me down the path that got me into my role as Peer Mentor within YPAS. A brand new project hoping that a new take on social prescribing can be effective for young people. By being a buddy, role model and more for these young people, they can make their journey to growing into the person they wish to be.
