Background
About Maureen Wit
With over three decades of committed service in child and youth advocacy, education, and community program development, I bring a career defined by heart-led leadership, collaborative innovation, and a deep dedication to empowering individuals and communities. I’ve worn many hats—Program Manager, Faculty Lead, Curriculum Developer, Instructor, and Liaison Worker—and each has sharpened my ability to create inclusive, compassionate, and purpose-driven environments. My journey began with Hull Services, where I spent nearly two decades supporting children, youth, and families in crisis. This foundational experience shaped my trauma-informed, community-oriented approach and laid the groundwork for my later roles in education, program leadership, and student advocacy. From there, I transitioned to the Calgary Board of Education as a School Family Liaison Worker, where I acted as a bridge between students, families, and school staff, ensuring all voices were heard and supported. The work was hands-on, human-centred, and deeply rewarding. Then I brought my expertise to the post-secondary education landscape at CDI College. I led the Child & Youth Community Support Worker Diploma Program as Lead Instructor, serving as the Regional South AB Instructor for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention through the Crisis Prevention Institute. Here, I combined academic rigour with real-world insights, mentoring future community support professionals and building transformative learning experiences. I also stepped into the role of Education Manager, helping streamline instructor-led training, strengthen public speaking initiatives, and drive student success strategies. Later Student Services Manager at MCG Career College, I fostered engagement, and created student-first institutional processes. These roles have reinforced my passion for equitable education and holistic student support. Most recently, I served as Project Manager and Program Developer at the Advocacy for Better Communities Foundation. My focus was on designing sustainable, impactful programs that respond to the evolving needs of marginalized populations across Calgary. The role allowed me to merge my educational background with my advocacy work, resulting in initiatives that are as strategic as they are community-centred. I lead with empathy, mentor with purpose, and build with sustainability in mind. Whether I’m supporting students, developing curricula, liaising with families, or managing community programs, I strive to make every interaction meaningful and every system more responsive to real human needs.
