About Max Hachmann
Post-doctoral researcher in the Atom-optics group at the Institute of laser physics at the University of Hamburg. So far my research interest involved: ultracold quantum gases, many-body physics-driven phenomena in optical lattices including unconventional quantum phases in higher Bloch bands and quantum simulation of these systems. I work on an experimental apparatus able to create degenerate quantum gases just a billionth degree Celsius above the absolute temperature minimum. The behaviour of these systems at such low temperatures is then fully governed by quantum mechanics. In conjunction with the excellent controllability of these systems, they are ideal sandboxes to explore fundamental properties of the quantum world.
