Background
About Max Mosher
My mom has a painting I made in kindergarten on her wall. It’s of a garden populated by anthropomorphic flowers with faces—big eyes and beaming smiles. Underneath is a three-sentence story, written with perfect lettering by my teacher, explaining rain had showered the flowers with facial features. I like to believe I’m still putting smiles on people’s faces. I connect with them through storytelling and laughter. It’s a thread throughout my life, from staging plays in grade school to becoming a writer to moving into communications. My career has had three pillars guiding me. The first is earned media. My father was a reporter at the Globe and Mail. I have newspaper ink in my blood. After taking journalism courses at TMU, I became the first male intern at WORN Fashion Journal, eventually working my way up to features editor. I wrote a regular lifestyle column for the Toronto Standard and had articles published in the Toronto Star, National Post, Globe and Mail and the UTNE Reader. At a time when the media world is changing rapidly, I am constantly thinking about innovative ways to reach audiences with reliable and relevant information. The second pillar is teamwork and client service. I have worked at PR agencies, both boutique and big, on a wide variety of teams and accounts. I have a collaborative, people-first approach to working with clients and colleagues, always trying to understand the big picture of challenges so we can produce the most impactful work. And, hopefully having a laugh along the way. Lastly, through my professional work and volunteer experience, I am committed to advocacy and trying to make the world a better place. I'm drawn to movements of social justice and progressive change. Communications is key to politics, and the future belongs to those who tell the best stories.
