About Max Newman

I have 3.5 year's military service with 161 Bty RNZA (Vietnam April 1970/71) and RNZ Provost Corps (1980/81). Since 1992 I have over 40 year's law enforcement experience. The last 25 year's as Section Sergeant with both the Ministry of Transport and NZ Police. I am a specialist in commercial vehicle compliance & enforcement. I have extensive experience in staff administration, management, team performance and training delivery with excellent outcomes/ results. I hold the NZQA National Certificate in 1st Line Management, Level 4. In 2005 I was warranted by DOL/WorkSafe NZ as a Health and Safety Inspector and have managed many HSE investigations following fatal & injury crashes involving commercial vehicles. I also hold NZ Police Dangerous Goods & HSNO warrants where I both investigate & manage my sections DG & HSNO investigations. Since I have been the senior manager of the Belfast RFC Division 1 rugby team where I am responsible for all team management functions. These include all team administration, on field support and liaison with both Belfast RFC management and Canterbury RFU. In May 2013 our daughter Kirsten gave birth to our first and only grand child Emma. I'm a very proud grandfather. September 2013 I was elected to the Christchurch Memorial RSA as a member of the executive committee. This year we will rebuild our clubrooms following the 2010 earthquakes and the challenges this will bring. On 30 June 2017 I retired after 44 years of Road Policing with both Ministry of Transport and NZ Police. My next venture is private consulting within the transport industry where I bring my extensive commercial vehicle law and policy knowledge. I am available via this media and my mobile phone. In April 2018 we moved to Wellington to be closer to our grand children following my retirement. August 2018 commenced as an Adjudicator for NZ Police at Police Infringement Bureau (PIB). Now looking at Policing from the other side.
