Background
About Max Roest
I am naturally interested in media and technology. This natural interest in media drove my choice for the Media and Culture Bachelor. At the time I was particularly interested in cities and how technology can change cities for the better. I wrote a thesis on the different types of Smart Cities and what advantages and disadvantages these types of Smart Cities have for society. After finishing my bachelor, I wanted to get some practical experience in the field. As I was still very interested in technology, I started a 6 month internship at Microsoft's Branding and Internal Communications Team. As a trainee I worked with multiple teams and gained experience in the following fields- I learned to write short texts for both internal as external use- I created a Microsoft Sharepoint (Business Sharing Platform) and maintained it with news, information, polls and updates- I helped organize events. This ranged from organizing a company party in the Kurhaus Hotel in Den Haag, to a relaxation event on office grounds, to being present at the Women in Technology Conference with a stand- I produced a short video for the Women in Technology conference. I started the New Media and Digital Culture Master. I wrote my thesis on the constant expansion of Google and substantiated how Google is making moves towards a future in which their algorithm is able to predict the wants and needs of people in the present and nearby future. This process is what I indicated as "the Googlization of Consciousness". During my master I continued working 5 nights a week at Carré. While I have had a few student jobs, Carré was the place that I loved the most. At first it started as just another job, but I fell in love with the theater and after 1,5 years, I was promoted to Supervisor. As I am a very enthousiastic, social and hospitable person, Carré promoted me to Restaurant Supervisor after half a year as Supervisor. I developed my photography skills as part of my own photography business. More and more I discover that I want to work in the media or technology industry, as media as a whole has always been one of my greatest passions.
