About Max Tuma

I am an ambitious and dedicated person, currently studying Computer Systems (BSc) at Heriot-Watt University, and working part time at Arm as a part-time undergraduate. My interests include: UI/UX design, UI testing, data protection and transparency, website design, software development, people and system oriented management, and sustainable development. I spent two months at GoodData working as an intern in 2018. I worked using JavaScript and React to create web apps and visualizations of customer data. During this time I developed my independent learning skills and improved my understanding of the professional workplace.After the internship, I finished my A Levels and starting working as a software development apprentice at Arm. During the two years as an apprentice, I worked on creating visualizations with Vue.js and PHP alongside python to manipulate the data. Furthermore I worked on developing linting tools for my team to check and correct code as well as sending reminders and results to people via different channels. I used Git, Gerrit and Jira for version control and task management. After completing the linting tool project, I helped with the maintenance of the project infrastructure with my manager and another apprentice for the remainder of my time as an apprentice. Next I moved onto the Part-Time Undergraduate (PTUG) role at Arm which sees me studying at university and over the summer breaks, doing full-time internships. In my first internship I worked on Client-Server relationships and used Vue.js to create a web app which interacted with my server using different functionality. In my second internship, I used what I had learned in the first one to test web apps using selenium and mocha. I worked on developing end-to-end UI tests for a tuning tool that would run automatically with new versions of the tool. Alongside the tests, I created a document template for creating new tests and example testcases. I am currently completing my third and final internship with Arm.At university I have studied a multitude of subject areas within computer science ranging from web development to language processing. Currently on track for a 1st class degree, my most notable experiences are a 3rd year software development project and a deep dive into systems thinking and knowledge management. The former being a group project which saw us building an educational web app, and the latter piquing my interest in people management.The future is exciting, I hope to work on many systems and ideas that help better the world and improve life for everyone.
