Background
About Maxim Timchenko
As CEO of DTEK since 2005, I've led the company's transformation from a regional energy provider to Ukraine's largest private energy investor and an integrated European energy company. My journey in the energy sector has been driven by a vision of innovation, sustainability, and resilience. I began my career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in advancing to lead auditor. From 2002 to 2005, I served as a senior manager at SCM, overseeing the energy business that would become DTEK. These experiences prepared me for leadership at DTEK, where we've invested €10,5 billion in Ukraine's energy sector over the past 15 years. My education includes a degree with honors from the Donetsk State Academy of Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Economic and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, and completion of the Executive Development Programme run by Academy DTEK and London Business School. At DTEK, we've faced extraordinary challenges since russia's initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014. I'm proud of our team's resilience in maintaining power supply across the country. On the eve of the full-scale invasion in 2022, we played a crucial role in connecting Ukraine to Europe's energy grid. Since then, we've led efforts to restore power to millions of homes during russia's winter missile attacks on our infrastructure. I'm deeply committed to Ukraine's energy transition and its potential as a green energy hub for Europe. In May 2023, we opened the Tyligulska Wind Power Plant near the Black Sea, just 60 miles from occupying forces, symbolizing our commitment to progress. Internationally, I advocate for closer energy ties between Ukraine and Europe and for energy independence across the continent. I also promote market reforms within Ukraine to accelerate our energy sector's transformation. In 2020, I presented DTEK's new 2030 strategy, grounded in ESG principles, outlining our vision to become a modern, digital, innovative, and environmentally-friendly organization at the forefront of Ukraine's new economy. I serve as a member of the World Economic Forum's Electricity Governors community and on the supervisory boards of the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine and the American University Kyiv. These roles allow me to contribute to shaping the future of energy globally. Throughout my career, I've been recognized by various business media outlets as one of Ukraine's top executives, including being named among the top ten winners of Forbes Ukraine's "25 Best CEOs".
