Background

About Maxime Dupraz

Beamline scientist - Materials scientist / X-ray diffraction - Synchrotron techniques / Job seeker in Zurich areaUntil recently I was a beamline scientist at the French CRG beamline BM02 (D2AM) located at the ESRF. The beamline is dedicated to advanced, time, space and energy-resolved in situ synchrotron characterization in materials science, taking advantage of two main endstations: a high precision kappa 6-circle diffractometer and a SAXS bench.I focus my research on understanding the relationship between microstructure and physical properties of metallic samples using synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques and molecular dynamics simulations. Over the past decade, I have conducted 50 synchrotron beamtimes and coupled them with in situ and operando environments. My previous postdoctoral work with Dr. Marie Ingrid Richard's ERC CARINE project involved using this combined experimental and modeling approach to investigate the structural evolution of catalytic nanoparticles during reaction. As a beamline scientist, my work involved developing and implementing novel X-ray techniques, in particular coherence based techniques, for materials characterization, as well as supporting and/or collaborating with researchers from various fields to tackle new research topics and improve analysis methods on the beamline. In the past decade, my research activities in several large scale facilities across several countries gave me the opportunity to develop worldwide collaborations in France, Switzerland, Belgium, USA. On top of my knowledge and expertise in several X-ray diffraction techniques and atomistic simulations, I also possess a wide range of skills, particularly- A very good knowledge of several synchrotron beamlines (optics, detectors, diffractometers, control softwares (BLISS)- A large experience in the use and developments of in situ and operando setups- An extensive experience in data analysis and diffraction simulation with several languages (python and GPU calculations)- A good knowledge of the OS Linux- A substantial experience with high performance computing clusters and job scheduling systems (SLURM, OAR), for atomistic and scattering simulations and data analysis- Good communication skills, through oral talks in international conferences and workshops and scientific writing- A solid experience in project management, being involved in several interdisciplinary research project involving multiple partnersI recently moved to Zurich and I am currently looking for a job in the Zurich area, where I could put all these skills to a good use!
