About Maxwell Eckelbarger
I am a Stanford undergraduate majoring in a degree of my own design, which I have named Eco-Botanical Engineering. I study both bioengineering/synthetic biology and environmental engineering/earth science. I hope to someday develop technology to protect ecosystem destruction from climate change. I focus on plants, and have been a part of the Plant Biology Department of Carnegie Science for almost two years. I am most interested in plant abiotic stress responses, and the plant secondary metabolism. I hope to someday combine phytoremediation technology with molecular farming. I am a part of the Plant Cell Atlas initiative, working under Sue Rhee’s lab. I am the head artist and exhibit manager for our outreach program. Through this project, we bring educational art to marginalized communities, aiming to foster diversity in the world of plant science. My art has been featured in the ASPB 2022 summit and several HBCUs and affiliated highschools.
