About Maxwell Fox

Intellectual Property Litigation, Licensing and Strategic Corporate Counseling I handle intellectual property infringement litigation, licensing, and counseling matters and represent clients ranging from electronics manufacturers to life sciences companies. I practiced in Los Angeles for nearly a decade before relocating to Tokyo in 2006. I have litigated cases throughout the U.S. and have experience before the International Trade Commission and Federal Circuit. I also have represented clients in business torts, unfair competition, breach of contract, fraud, and other commercial disputes and have experience representing clients in criminal and civil litigation related to cartel investigations. My recent experience includes defending Japanese companies in multipatent cases involving telecommunications and network security technology, litigations involving technology relating to chipsets used in mobile handsets, and patent infringement litigation involving technology used in LCD and DLP projectors. I also have represented branded pharmaceutical companies in enforcing their patent rights through ANDA litigation under the Hatch-Waxman Act. I frequently speak on IP law and have lectured on patent matters to the Japan Patent Attorneys Association and to the Chung Hwa Research Institute in Taiwan. I have guest lectured as part of an IP law course at Keio University. In 2015, I was invited to participate in a mock oral argument in front of the chief judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals at a symposium in Tokyo celebrating the 10th anniversary of the creation of Japan's Intellectual Property High Court. I am a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association, American Bar Association, and American Intellectual Property Law Association and have served as a master of the Tokyo IP American Inn of Court.
