About Maxwell Hope

My experience spans eight years of qualitative and quantitative research in and out of the university setting. During my time in undergrad, I worked in various linguistics labs and in medical settings conducting research, analyzing data, and running statistical analyses. In 2019, I completed my M.A. in Linguistics & Cognitive Science and went on to complete my PhD at the University of Delaware in Linguistics in summer of 2024. My research specialty is on expanding how we collect linguistic data to more accurately capture people's lived experiences and how to create inclusive synthetic voices for Speech Generating Devices (SGDs). Specifically, I work on moving beyond the gender binary in sociophonetics. To accomplish my goal, I use a community-led approach, mixed methods, and new (to the field) statistical techniques. Data visualization is of particular interest as I enjoy being a "storyteller" of my data and conveying crucial information to my audience. I have a passion for working for organizations that have a deep sense of mission and purpose.
