About Maxwell Shulman

Hello! I'm proud to be currently pursuing my Master's in DC at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, a top-ten public policy school. I'm looking to gain more experience in building a reservoir of skills to help understand the world.My passion is conducting quantitative and qualitative research to help solve practical, real-world questions. For example, my Bachelor's Thesis used statistical analysis to answer a question I found fascinating - why did Switzerland grant women the right to vote in 1971, so much later than other democracies? Once we have some relevant answers, synthesizing and communicating it is key; my long competitive debating career and writing skills have really helped me in that regard. Before this, I interned at Charney Research conducting international research and worked at UTSW Medical Center contributing to curing kidney cancer. Right now, I'm conducting Policy Research at the Business Network for Offshore Wind, evaluating West Coast market readiness for the industry.At 14, I began my undergrad at Bard College at Simon's Rock, a small liberal arts college with a higher USNEWS Academic Rating than Harvard or Princeton. As you can probably tell, I have a lot of interests and triple-majored: Geography, Biology, and Classics. In my free time, you can find me following 538 and PredictIt, thinking about comparative politics, playing Badminton, and feeding my alpacas. Nice to meet you!
