About May Alsaigh

Growing up, I've always questioned everything about the way our society operates. I quickly realized my passion for studying criminal justice, social inequality and social interactions. Fast forward a few years later, I am now a University of Toronto Mississauga graduate with a degree in Honours Bachelor of Arts interested in pursuing a career in researching sociology and criminology. In June 2024, I graduated with a double major in Sociology and Criminology with High Distinction while being named as a Dean's List Scholar. My academic journey has been a profoundly enriching experience and has equipped me with a deep understanding of crime, social justice, and societal structures. During my time at university, I became heavily involved in my campus's newspaper, The Medium, where I served as News Editor in my final two years. A few of my responsibilities included reporting on important student-related matters, editing five to seven articles a week, preparing weekly issues, and guiding aspiring reporters in news writing. With my experience in journalism and education, I aspire to pursue a career as a university professor where I can share my knowledge and inspire students in the field of sociology and criminology. I hope to one day create and instruct a course regarding the sociology of journalism and study the efficacy of journalism today. I am eager about the opportunity to contribute to the academic community by introducing new discussions, advancing new research and pursuing a career in teaching.
