Maya's belief in embracing diverse opportunities and cultivating new skills has guided her unique career journey. Having left a lasting impact on cultural awareness and education in Kenya and South Korea, Maya's skills have expanded from print journalism to include radio, television, and teaching. In her role as a Communications Consultant at Georgia State University College of Law, Maya leverages her extensive media background to enhance the college's engagement and visibility. Her exceptional storytelling talents were acknowledged through the honor of being the 2023 College of Law commencement speaker. Maya excels in conveying complex ideas, consistently striving for tangible outcomes. As an Adjunct Adult Education/GED Instructor at South Florida State College, she inspires and guides students, including those with a history of incarceration due to drug offenses. In 2023, Maya witnessed the historic achievement of the first two incarcerated students receiving their high school diploma in Hardee County, underscoring her commitment to education and empowerment. Driven by a deep passion for DEI, Maya plays a pivotal role in reshaping cultural classes, fostering a deeper appreciation of global traditions, and nurturing empathy among students from diverse backgrounds. A dedicated storyteller, Maya empowers others to seize control of their narratives through her social media presence. In 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, she showcased creativity and resilience by creating the "Choose Your December" journal. This initiative, born out of intentionality, transformed Maya's own holiday narrative into a joy-filled journey.
