About Maya de Thabrew

I am a highly motivated Forensic Scientist with expertise in body fluid and biological material identification and analysis, and interpreting DNA findings within the context of the case. I started my career in Forensic Science as a Forensic Examiner at Cellmark Forensic Services in 2010. I then progressed to Forensic DNA Analyst, working in busy laboratory environments from item examination through to DNA interpretation and specialist DNA methods. I joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 2015, keen to develop my skills in the area of major crime casework, becoming a Forensic Examiner. I was promoted to Forensic Scientist in 2019, the role I currently hold. This role allows me to learn and develop my skills and expertise on a daily basis, through managing complex major crime casework, urgent and priority submissions and delivery of results reports, statements and court attendance, as well as managing forensic examiners, checking colleagues' work and assisting with recruitment of new staff from different departments within Forensic Services. I pride myself in my attention to detail and thorough and efficient management of casework, contributing to delivering a high standard of service to the people of London.
