About Maya Duggan

Growing up, I was an avid reader, so when it came time to choose a major in college, English was the obvious choice. I thought I would teach or perhaps become an editor. It turns out, what I really loved about reading was learning about the human condition and understanding psychology. I love to understand how others think, what drives them, what makes them tick, and what makes them happy. Having not only understanding but compassion for others has given me the ability to relate to people from all walks of life, and one of the things I value most in life is the relationships we have built together. You might be looking at my current title and thinking, “what does any of this have to do with HR?” After a series of odd jobs, I landed my first opportunity in Human Resources almost 10 years ago, drawn by the variety of tasks that in one way or another spoke to my passions. As a recruiter, I was excited and proud to tell candidates about the culture of our company and the benefits we offered, and learning how they would be a good match for our team. As a benefit administrator, I was happy to help others understand the differences between our medical plans and what would best suit the needs of their family. By conducting compensation reviews I was able to ensure we were ahead of the market and that we were offering equal pay for equal work. By assisting with employee relations, I was able to identify and mediate issues and help promote a cohesive and inclusive environment. And (oddly, admittedly, being a people-person and all) I love getting lost in an Excel spreadsheet, analyzing data, looking for possible discrepancies, and seeking solutions to correct them. We spend so much of our lives at work. I am passionate about creating an environment for myself and others that makes you excited to show up on Monday mornings knowing you will be supported while working towards your goals with a team who is able to communicate effectively for a company that treats their people… well… like people. When I’m not working, you can find me: among the trees; soaking in the view from a mountaintop; paddleboarding with my dog; practicing yoga and meditation; enjoying time with family and friends; or on a plane ready to explore a faraway land.
