About Maya Gordon

I began practicing in the area of wills and estates when I joined our firm in 2011, and fell in love with the area. It is an amazing opportunity to meet with a broad array of people and work through important topics like family dynamics, inheritance, and one's lasting legacy. My passion for the area has allowed me to meet wonderful people and develop my skills in the area. I am a member of two Boards - the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and the Edmonton Estate Planning Council. I am a member of the Canadian Bar Association Wills, Estates and Trusts (North) Section, as well as a former member of that Board for many years, acting as Chair in 2023-2024. In 2024, I was accepted into the UK-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), giving me the global TEP designation. I have also obtained the designation of one of the Best Lawyers™ in Canada in the area of Trusts and Estates (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025). In January 2019, I began co-teaching the the Wills and Administration law course at the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta, and in 2024 I had the opportunity to present for the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA), the Centre for Public Legal Education of Alberta (CPLEA), and presented to many clients, community groups and members of the public on the topic of wills and estates. In 2023, I joined some wonderful law students in starting the Student Legal Services Pro Bono Wills Project to provide estate planning to low-income Albertans. Beyond my wills and estates work, I have been a member of the firm’s professional regulatory team for many years, assisting associations, colleges and other professional regulators of varying sizes.
