About Mayhue Bostic

Although I was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Albert King and Danny Gatton, my influences have broadened even further by studying and listening to Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, George Benson, Pat Martino, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, and Frank Gambale. All of my formal training, mixed with my love of diverse styles and genres, really helped to shape how I perform. And, branching out into other genres has been helpful in developing my own style. My rock, funk and blues roots have kept me working and I gained an incredible amount of experience from gigging. I supplemented my income while I attended Morris College by performing in weddings, proms, and fraternity parties on the weekends with my r&b/funk band. Consequently, I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree on May 15, 1983. In 2005, I had the unique opportunity to tour twelve cities in Northern and Southern Italy playing blues and jazz for The Centro Jazz Festival with the Betty Pride Blues Band based out of Charlotte, NC. I remember this tour as one of the highlights of my musical career. In the fall of 2012, I decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Music. So, I became a Jazz Studies Major and studied with Jazz guitar professor Bert Ligon at The University of South Carolina School of Music. I have performed weddings, private parties, corporate events and nightclubs for years. Also, I teach private guitar lessons to help novice guitarists discover their inner talents.
