About Mayke Oosterloo

Mayke Oosterloo is a neurologist at the department of neurology, Maastricht University Medical Center, the Netherlands. She received her MD degree at Leiden University (2004). She was trained as a neurologist at Leiden University Medical Center (2005-2011). In 2015 she became head of the Huntington’s Disease Expert Center MaastrichtUMC+ acknowledged by the ministry of health and welfare as well as the European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases. She received extra training in the neuropsychiatric symptoms of Huntington’s Disease as clinical fellow at Manchester University Hospitals, United Kingdom (Dr. David Craufurd). This fellowship was sponsored by the European Huntington Disease Network and the Movement Disorder Society. In 2020 she obtained her PhD degree in Maastricht (thesis: “Controversies and pitfalls in diagnosing Huntington’s disease”). In 2021 she became a faculty member of the school of Mental Health and Neuroscience. She is the principal investigator in several international Huntington’s disease cohort studies and trials. Her current research focuses on quality of life, treatment of neuropsychiatric symptoms and biomarkers in Huntington’s disease. She is board member of the Dutch Huntington Disease Research Network and lead facilitator of the behavioural Phenotype working group of the European Huntington Disease Network
