About Mayra Chavez

I have always told myself that no matter what I ended up doing for a living, I wanted to help people. When I started my design journey, I was amazed by everything that it entailed: ADA codes, building codes, ergonomics, and sustainability, to name a few.I am a recent graduate from the California State University of Long Beach and acquired my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interior Design. It was in CSULB that I gained my knowledge of building codes, drafting, space planning, and techniques for both digital and hand-rendering. It was a five-year program where I utilized my skills to produce concept-based projects. Previously, I was an intern for my university’s Physical Planning and Facilities Management Department. It was an enjoyable experience where I expanded my knowledge in Education Design. I had great pleasure in working with my co-workers in the next steps for improving student life. It was fun seeing initial ideas turn into furniture specs and presentations. The process was always rewarding, knowing that our efforts centered around the students. My design experience began through my senior design associate position for La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. I was expected to guide clients through our various products and services to enhance their homes. I grew out of my shell as I sharpened my communication skills and improved my leadership skills. I assisted clients one-on-one, asking, and listening about any concerns and advice regarding our products within their homes. I love learning, and I like taking on challenges. My passions extend towards love for food (both preparing and eating, of course), nature, films/documentaries, technological advances, psychology, and spending time with my family and friends.
