About McKenzie Lanigan

Hello! I am currently a full-time therapist at Family Life Counseling working with anyone over the age of 12 years old. I am also a part-time therapist at Spectrum Mental Health where I work more specifically with individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. At the moment I'm looking to gain experience and work towards becoming independently licensed. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in April of 2023 with my MSW. I completed an internship at the Crossroads Center. My first internship was as a case investigator/operations coordinator on the UC COVID-19 Response Team. I also completed a fellowship at the University of Cincinnati called SAFE-T where I learned about the opioid crisis, MAT, SBIRT, and other topics related to substance abuse. I graduated from the Ohio State University at Newark with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in professional writing in May 2020. I have taken various psychology courses such as introduction to cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, memory and cognition, social psychology, research methods, positive psychology, abnormal psychology, the psychology of gender, and a social psychology lab. All of these courses helped me gain a better understanding of the field and have piqued some specialized interests. I was also the president of the Introspect psychology club from 2019-2020 and the secretary of Psi Chi from 2019-2020. I completed an internship for one semester at The Woodlands which is a nonprofit organization that helps individuals whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. That internship opened my eyes to a whole field of social work I never knew existed. During this internship, I also worked more with annual reports and grant writing which was very beneficial for my minor in professional writing. I also worked as a Peer Writing Consultant at the Writer's Studio on campus for two and a half years. During this time I learned invaluable skills such as creating relationships with students and staff, setting boundaries with your students, communicating ideas in different ways, creating flyers, representing the Writer's Studio at Buckeye visit days and orientations, and developing my own writing by helping others. I was fortunate enough to receive the Outstanding Student Employee Award for the 2019-2020 school year.
