About Meaghan Duffy

I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Recreation and Leisure: Therapeutic Recreation Honours degree at Brock University, passionate about meaningful and impactful mental health care through recreation programming and community advocacy. My thesis research focused on loss and grief associated with mental illness and how therapeutic recreation can be used to help support affected populations. Before pursuing recreation therapy, I had established a strong work history in the hospitality, event management, administrative, and educational programming fields. In these roles, I was able to develop exceptional communication, organization, and planning skills while collaborating successfully with diverse teams. My genuine and outgoing demeanour thrives in dynamic work environments where I am able to create meaningful and positive relationships with colleagues and clients, which lends itself well to client-facing roles. I am now a full-time Recreation Therapist at Homewood Health Centre for the in-patient Traumatic Stress Injury Concurrent Program, managing client caseloads on the Cornerstone unit and the Guardians first responders unit. In this role, I am responsible for developing and facilitating recreation programming, completing client assessments, providing 1:1 client support, advocating for the importance of recreation therapy in client care, and collaborating with interdisciplinary health teams. It is my goal to continue to apply my professional experience, knowledge, and passion for serving others by contributing towards the field and its services. I am currently open to professional writing and research opportunities as it relates to recreation therapy, mental health, grief and loss, and trauma.
