About Meaghan Hackinen
I am a writer and ultra-endurance cyclist whose two-wheeled adventures have taken me from Haida Gwaii to Mexico’s high plateaus, across Canada and the United States, and from North Cape to Tarifa along some of Europe’s highest paved roads. I am a Trans Am Bike Race, and Paris-Brest-Paris brevet finisher, as well as the 2021 BC Epic winner and 2019 24-Hr World Time Trial Champion and current course record-holder in the women’s division. My debut travel memoir, South Away: The Pacific Coast on Two Wheels (NeWest Press, 2019) was shortlisted for the 2020 Kobo Emerging Writer Prize (non-fiction), and the 2020 Alberta Book Publishing Award (trade non-fiction). I have an MFA in Writing from the University of Saskatchewan and live on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan People in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. I am the fund development associate and and local area representative for the Federation of BC Writers, an organization 'for writers, about writing.'
