About Meera Vasudeva

I am an English teacher, tutor and GCSE English examiner with over 13 years of experience working in the education sector; I have worked with all key stages and have experience of teaching within a range of educational settings and establishments. At present, I am working as the Head of English in Avanti House School, this is a free school that opened its doors in September 2012. I set up the English department and in 2017, we recently received our first set of GCSE results for the new 9-1 spec; we achieved 83% 9-4 (the second best in the borough). From 2018, we will be an AQA hub school for GCSE English. I see learning as a continuous lifelong process, for this reason, I love connecting with other schools/ teachers and developing links to pick up excellent ideas and good practice. I created the English department website to network with other English teachers and encourage the sharing of free resources and ideas, similarly I currently run a supportive group on Facebook that has over English teachers. In addition to this I run my own private tutoring company meeravasudeva.co.uk and I recently examined for the new 9-1 AQA GCSE English language examination, hence I feel I have invaluable insight into the assessment process and expectations for GCSE English. Aside from teaching, I have a huge passion for literature- specifically for reading and writing poetry; I enjoy attending poetry evenings and readings in and around London.
