About Meg Overocker

Prior to taking my current position as a Grant writer with Blais and Associates, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in geology from East Carolina University. I worked in environmental consulting as a hydrogeologist with Professional Geologist licensure for five years before returning to get my Master's Degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My thesis project allowed me to travel to and work on an interesting project assessing the organic matter present in "soils" of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica using organic and isotope geochemistry methods (see Thesis, Geochemical Characterization of Coastal Pond and Adjacent Soil Organic Matter from Two Distinct Field Areas of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica - Meg E. Howard, University of Tennessee - Knoxville). I then worked for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and also as a consultant for two Environmental/Engineering Firms. During the latter part of my career, I expanded my skills into areas of Industrial Hygiene, OSHA training, and grant writing. I took a hiatus from the working world to be a stay at home mother in 2013 and returned to the working world in Fall 2017. During my hiatus I stayed busy earning Master Gardener accreditation from the University of Illinois Extension, volunteered at our local library by writing grants for the children's reading program, and fund raising for various volunteer groups. My current passions are teaching science to children, grant writing, volunteer and fundraising work.
