Megan Collins University of North Texas: BA BiologyI am a first year college student at the University of North Texas. I am majoring in a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and will specialize in optometry after I finish my bachelors degree. I am currently working as an optometric assistant at Lakeline Vision Source, which has been an amazing experience. Through my job I have learned that I am truly passionate about optometry. I scribed for the doctors so they could give the patient a more personalized experience. I also talked to patients about payment plans towards contacts so they would know how much they cost, how much we could discount the contacts or how much their insurance would cover, and more. Working at Lakeline Vision Source taught me responsibility and accuracy because of planning then explaining the patient’s financial responsibility and making sure I heard and wrote down everything the doctor said. I also worked at Ulta Beauty as a beauty advisor. I worked at the cash register, cleaned, and organized the store. Working at Ulta Beauty taught me organization and getting a deeper understanding of what a customer is looking for.I also have some experience with volunteering. I volunteered at a homeless living center in Austin called Community First Village. I went there with a group of my friends and we helped them with their garden. We pulled out weeds to help the plants flourish and to make the outside area look neater.
