About Megan Davis

As a Harvard University Chair and Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School and a Scientia Professor and Balnaves Chair in Constitutional Law at UNSW, my mission is to advance justice through the lens of public law and Indigenous rights. My expertise in Indigenous human rights, democracy and constitutional law has been instrumental in pioneering legal frameworks, notably being a drafter of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and innovating in deliberative Dialogue that led to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the modification of the mandate of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the working methods of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. I have been a UN expert on Indigenous rights at the UN for twelve years including as Chair of two UN human rights mechanisms. At UNSW, leadership roles such as Pro Vice-Chancellor Society and Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous and Director of the Indigenous Law Centre have enabled me to steer significant projects, leveraging my legal acumen to influence policy and societal change. Our team's dedication to the Uluṟu Statement from the Heart exemplifies our commitment to meaningful progress and empowerment in the legal landscape for First Nations.
