About Megan Jobson

I was the Learned Society Manager at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). In this role, I assisted IChemE in achieving its strategic aim relating to supporting, sharing and growing knowledge of members and of the profession, especially to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I collaborated with member-volunteers to hold events, work on projects and deliver knowledge resources for members and the public. A highlight was the May 2024 report 'Engineering a Sustainable World - The Chemical Engineering Challenge' I am a chartered chemical engineer (since 2007) and, since 2016, a Fellow of IChemE. I was a Chemical Engineering academic at the University of Manchester, UK, from 1996 to October 2022. There I taught undergraduate and postgraduate students about chemical process design and distillation system design. I supervised undergraduate, MSc, PhD and postdoctoral research projects in the area of process design and integration, with a strong focus on separation processes, e.g. distillation, membrane separations, adsorption and liquid-liquid extraction. Process integration applies mathematical models to explore and exploit interactions and synergies within chemical processes in order for efficient use of materials, energy and assets. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (since 2017). I have two years of process engineering experience in the food industry, working for Unilever in South Africa.
