Curiosity has shaped my life. I still remember my first day of school in South Africa, opening my bag to find a snake inside—a shock (to say the least) for someone who’d just left the frozen winters of Canada! Growing up between cultures taught me early that the world is unpredictable and complex—and that curiosity matters most when you're willing to face the unexpected and adapt. That same drive shaped my first role as a new law graduate at a Law Clinic, where I met clients with strong cases who had already lost—not because the law wasn’t on their side, but because they didn’t know the rules or the time limits. Access and information were against them. It was a lesson I’ve never forgotten: when knowledge is locked behind complexity, people can’t act. That insight drives what I do today: designing inclusive, research-led learning experiences that make the complex feel clear and usable. Guided by the 5Di process, I start by listening deeply—to subject matter experts and the people who will use the solution—then co-create blended designs that embed universal design principles from the start. Every step is tested, refined, and iterated to make sure it works in the real world. One of my favourite projects turned a company’s new values into something people could experience. Instead of the usual top-down video from senior leaders, we created an immersive, actor-led experience. Each room brought a principle to life—something people could do, not just hear. It didn’t just shift behaviours; it became a story people were still sharing two years later. At Alchemist, I applied this approach with teams behind brands like The LEGO Group, Disney, Deloitte, EY, and Springer Nature. Now at Hyster-Yale, I’m scaling it across EMEA—building an academy that helps people develop the awareness and capability they need to act with confidence. Because when learning is clear and accessible, it changes what’s possible.
