About Megan Kwiatkowski

I am a motivated senior at Duquesne University majoring Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. Throughout my time at Duquesne I have been actively involved in research projects and clubs. Through my coursework, I have gained a strong understanding in engineering principles, experimental design, and problem solving. Most importantly, I have learned to leverage available resources and past experiences to overcome unfamiliar challenges As an undergraduate research assistant, I have gained proficiency in MATLAB, Autodesk Fusion 360, and prototype fabrication, skills critical to developing experimental models and analyzing results in engineering projects. Similarly, in computational neuroscience research, I quickly mastered NetLogo and agent-based modeling to implement creative solutions within a complex 3D neural model. I also recently participated in the SCUDEM IX 2024 where my team and I successfully created an ordinary differential equation model. We received the Outstanding award and had an average score of 4.56/5 from the judges. These experiences reflect my ability to adapt, learn new tools, and tackle technical problems effectively. Outside of the classroom, I am the treasurer for Duquesne's Society of Women Engineers section. I have closely worked with the other executives to plan a fun-filled, resourceful year of activities. Additionally, I have been working at the Spencer Family YMCA part-time as a lifeguard and swim instructor. During this time, I have had the opportunity to grow and take on further responsibilities at the Y.
