About Megan Laws

Currently a research midwife, working at the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre at the Manchester Foundation Trust. I work closely with patients who participate in research including recruitment, data and sample collection and SAE reporting. My research role has given me the knowledge and awareness of clinical trial implementation structures. As part of the research team I have obtained skills in screening, recruitment, data handling and tracking and electronic databases. I consistently work within ICH-GCP guidelines, the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care and local SOPs. Prior to this I worked as a clinical midwife throughout different maternity departments providing midwifery care and health promotion at all stages of the perinatal period. This has enabled me to keep up to date with the most recent policies and guidelines based on high quality research to provide a safe, high standard of care. I have experience working within a multidisciplinary team and leading this team on shift. Additionally, I work closely with external services on a regular basis. Both roles have given me an array of communication skills and awareness of different working methods. I have a strong eye for detail and ensure multidisciplinary care is provided efficiently and safely for the best interests of the patient. Due to the fast pace of my previous working environments I have an organised, proactive approach towards my work. I prioritise tasks, delegate work appropriately and manage my time efficiently. I am keen to continue developing my knowledge and skill within the research field.
