About Megan Moir

Having graduated from Grays School of Art in June with a first-class honours degree in textile design I am looking to gain experience working within the creative industry. Throughout my time at Grays, I developed a strong style and a passion to engage others in the arts. Through textiles I enjoy pushing the boundaries between design and conceptual art. Coming from a design background I have learned how to structure, solve problems and drive a project. In my practice it is important to me how my work is relevant to those who view it. Community art was in fact the focus of my dissertation. To further my experience in this I have taken on the voluntary role of Arts Director for the Charteris Centre in Edinburgh. Working with them to strengthen their links with communities through artistic projects. I am also helping as a Graduate in Residence at Grays School of Art to support younger artists and designers. Creatively I enjoy working with concepts that are topical and relevant to the world around us. I am inspired by many contemporary artists which is clear in my work. So much so I was awarded the Fife Contemporary Award for my honours project textile installation. I value collaboration, having worked on projects with other such as dancers and artists. A particular project I am proud of is the organisation of the fashion film I helped to lead which exhibited our years final collections. This involved organising model castings and working with professional videographers. A key part was working with the individual designers to make sure they felt their work was correctly represented. Before I began my studies, I gained my TEFOL qualification and worked as an English Teacher in 3 government schools in Sri Lanka for a full year. This taught me to be able to adapt and flexible within situations while keeping a focus toward the main goal. Through my many different experiences I have become a very driven and resilient individual. I strive in creative environment and supporting others to succeed. I am adaptable and work through different situations. As part of a team or as an individual I am reliable and will work hard to achieve success in whatever I do.
