About Megan Nelson
I grew up with a younger brother who was non-speaking. He had a speech therapist that worked with him tirelessly for years. As she helped my brother find new ways to communicate, he began to thrive at home, with friends, and in the community. It was then that I decided to become a speech therapist.So I did. I am a Speech Language Pathologist dedicated to the individual as a whole. I believe deficits or disabilities do not define an individual nor their impact on the world. I have worked for the last year at the Alpine School District guiding elementary age students with a variety of speech, language, and cognitive disabilities in their desires to communicate more effectively. I particularly treasure the time I spent introducing a group of 10 non-speaking students to AAC devices and other means of communication. Beyond being a speech therapist, I also love to create. You will often find me at my cozy crafting table binding books, crocheting, writing, or painting.
