About Megan Rivard

Schools are not just institutions. Schools are living parts of the communities around them. Through place-based education (PBE), a framework that makes learning more relevant and engaging, the relationship between school and community is offered a way to heal. To reconnect. To remind us that we belong to each other, and to the land. Schools can be centers of transformation for entire communities - at least, that's the belief that guided me through a master’s degree focused on PBE and systems change. It led me on a path where I collaborated with educators, administrators, and community members to reimagine what learning could look like when deeply connected to local and lived experiences. I believe the stories of innovative educators, especially when woven together with the stories of the places they teach in, hold the potential to inspire real change. I continue to seek out the places where schools and communities are working in reciprocity. Those stories fill me with hope.
