About Megha Roy

I’m a consultant and independent researcher based in India, working at the intersection of land governance, energy transitions, and finance. I specialise in evaluating fairness in private land transactions for renewable energy projects and advocate for equitable and transparent energy transitions through sustained engagement with affected communities and industry stakeholders. With experience across 12+ Indian states and Egypt, I have worked on non-regulatory environmental and social impact assessments, due diligence processes, policy analyses, and international development cooperation projects. My work involves designing and conducting assessments grounded in regional contexts and conducting extensive stakeholder consultations. I have functional familiarity with multiple DFI and MDBs' E&S safeguards and standards as well as national regulatory frameworks related to land, indigenous people, and labour welfare across multiple sectors. As an independent researcher, I connect the experiences of communities affected by renewable energy projects to Indian regulatory frameworks, international soft law, and climate finance. My research interests span renewable energy, climate finance, just transition, comparative law, and political ecology, viewed through the lens of caste, gender, and systemic marginalization. I bring strengths in mixed methods research including intersectional analysis, policy analysis, comparative legal research, financial flow mapping.
