About Meghan Garrison

I am currently serving my 23rd year in the US Coast Guard. I went through military electronics school, 2M (Micro Miniture) school - soldering and repairing circuit boards and replaceing components, and MK92 school. I am the current Senior Enlisted Reserve Advisor for the Small Boat Station out of Detroit, MI. I am in charge of 11 members at that unit and I coordinate drill dates, training schedules, and maintain their readiness status. I have held a valid security clearance with the military for over 15 years. I was active duty for 8.8 years and went into the Reserve unit in 2009. I worked at Starbucks as a barista during my last 2.5 years in New Jersery while serving the US Coast Guard. I also took a few classes online at the Art Institute of Philidelphia in the Graphic Design program. I began working towards my bachelors degree at Purdue University as soon as I moved back to Lafayette from my last duty station in New Jersey. I had 4 kids during my 5 years of earning my bachelors degree. I haven't been able to go to graduate school to become a Physicians Assistant yet due to the location of the schools available. I manage our farm and household and have started a small business making handcrafted goat's milk soap. My time of raising my children to school age has come to an end. I am now looking to get into the civilian workforce and begin a second career.
