Background
About Mehran Khan
I am a student and research intern seeking professional opportunities in the field of public health research. I have a strong grasp of biostatistics, data management techniques, statistical softwares, advanced searches on various databases such as EMBASE, Medline, Pubmed, CINAHL, and protocol/report writing, and applying them in a professional setting. My current project at the stroke foundation involves an epidemiological analysis of ideal staffing ratios required for nursing, medical and allied health professionals in acute stroke care units to achieve the best stroke outcomes and ideal standards of care being received by all stroke patients. I collaborate with a project team on a weekly basis to design and establish study parameters to ultimately create an original research paper at the end of my internship. I have also interned previously on a Project relating to sex differences in cardiac arrests, during which I had the chance to submit an original research paper for publishing. My academic ventures are also heavily geared towards epidemiological research and developing a robust foundation in academic research. Additionally, I have worked in high demand administrative roles for the state government and in clinical trials as a project assistant. I have developed strong communication and reporting skills as a registry officer for the Department of Justice and Community Safety, where I helped clients with over-the-phone queries regarding births, deaths, marriage and change of name registrations as well as assessing their compliance. As a Clinical Trials project assistant at CMAX, I was in-charge of participant recruitment and the management of clinical trial documents as part of six separate drug trial project teams. In both roles, I had to use collaborative tools such as Microsoft teams, zoom and Sharepoint for document sharing, and work in a team-based environment. I also had to become familiar with using calendar applications, keeping track of emails, and use reporting software such as Salesforce and Rio. Outside of my professional and academic ventures, I enjoy reading fiction novels, writing poetry, taking care of my health and fitness, and giving back to my community through volunteering at the local cricket club where my younger sibling plays. I also competed in and enjoy various sports ranging from cricket and soccer to more recent ventures in boxing. I enjoy maintaining discipline and pushing my creative and physical limits and grow more competent in my pursuits, and this is something I wish to apply in my career development.
