About Meichen Waxer

I am a visual artist, public programmer and cultural worker based in Toronto. Committed and passionate about equitable and diverse arts education, community engaged programming and the pursuit of innovative ways that creative practice can inform and shape a better tomorrow. I hold a Masters of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design University. I have exhibited nationally and internationally, as well participated in multiple international residencies. With over a decade of experience as an artist and arts work, I am also the Co-Director and Co-Founder of Arts Assembly. Arts Assembly is a community-focused arts organization that emphasizes artistic collaboration, discursive research and reciprocal exchange. With a focus on social practices, Arts Assembly aims to foster relationships between the community and professional artists, hoping to expand the notion of what art can be and do, and provide a high caliber of diverse and inclusive arts programming across the lower Mainland of British Columbia. I recently held the position of Vice President, Board of Directors, Art Metropole. Formally I was President of the Board of Directors and Fundraising Chair at Or Gallery, Vancouver, Canada, as well a former studio member of Dynamo Arts Association.
