About Mel Hack

With 15 years in hospitality, Mel Hack is part of a new generation reshaping the global whisky and bar scene—combining hands-on production experience, world-class hospitality, and collaborations with some of the biggest spirit brands in the world. Her mission is to make drinks more accessible for all, leading with kindness and curiosity. Based between Melbourne, Australia and Vancouver Island, Canada, Mel moved to Vancouver island in July 2025 and worked in whisky production and education at Shelter Point Distillery, one of Canada's most respected grain-to-glass producers. Mel currently works for the 3rd most Awarded Whisky Distillery in the world — Macaloney’s Island Distillery based in Victoria BC, Canada. Her career spans both sides of the bar, from crafting spirits to curating them. She honed her expertise at Whisky & Alement in Melbourne—awarded World Whisky Awards: World's Best Whisky Bar (Rest of World), 2023—where she served as cocktail creative lead, specialised in single malts and independent bottlings, and led whisky masterclasses and tastings. Mel has contributed to Australian Bartender Magazine since 2021, written for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society Unfiltered Magazine, and holds accolades including Drinks World Top 25 Bartenders (2024), global finalist placements in Jameson Black Barrel and Altos Tequila, and national finalist recognition in Nikka Perfect Serve and Vero Bartender – Amaro Montenegro. She is currently studying for her IBD General Certificate in Distilling.
