About Mel Seaton

With a passion for supporting learners and a background in educational administration, teaching, research, writing, and editing, I support students and faculty by providing direction, resources, and community. Throughout my 17 years of academic experience, I have leveraged communication and program management skills to build and strengthen programs designed to advance learning, quality of life, multidisciplinary collaboration, and diversity/equity/inclusion. I have guided professional development and mentoring, student support services, and Title IX investigation. As a researcher, I understand the value of data-based decision-making, which is why I advocate for data visualization, conduct research on best practices, and engage in academic publishing. My efforts not only help me to advance student success, but they contribute to an institutional environment based on support, inquiry, and collaboration. Key Skillsets Program & Operations Management: I am responsible for daily operations of a department serving ~11K students with strong faculty engagement, continuous process improvement, professional development, and student support. Budget Oversight: I am responsible for the oversight of institutional and grant-funded budgets totaling ~$800k. I ensure all financial resources are deployed responsibly and in accordance with internal and external mandates and conduct appropriate analysis and reporting of all expenditures. Student Support: I believe students’ environments impact their learning, so I work to ensure positive environments in which students feel valued, supported, and heard. I conduct ongoing evaluations of pedagogical and curricular efficacy to ensure students have every opportunity to meet their educational goals. Faculty Development: I have contributed to faculty mentoring programs, implemented supports for struggling professors, coordinated presentations from experts, and managed grant funding for faculty development activities. Research, Writing, & Editing: I am a published academic researcher with experience authoring and co-authoring innovative texts, serving as managing and content editor, and presenting complex research findings to academic and public audiences.
