About Mel Stein

I am an experienced leader who is known for making the business objectives happen through its people, processes, systems, and technology. My strengths lie in my ability to shift my focus from the operational to the strategic (and back again), ‘join the dots’, and to always dare to think differently. I have led teams in the delivery of services to external and internal customers (employees) in domestic and global settings. Through fostering a people-centred, psychologically healthy, and safe environment, as well as establishing a culture of belonging, I know it is possible to bring about the mobilisation of ideas and change that can solve complex challenges and deliver a more purposeful impact. With extensive experience across mining, international trade, construction, environmental engineering and information and technology industries, I am adept at navigating environments that are typically ambiguous, complex, and demanding by nature. In fact, I thrive in them! I don’t see the limitations, only the possibilities. Given my diverse expertise and capability I regularly manage projects (in addition to my business as usual) across people, strategy, continuous improvement, cost optimisation, digital product implementations, service line growth, and workplace transformations to increase efficiency, ensure compliance and drive success. This necessitates hard skills as well as human-centric skills such as creativity, persuasion, collaboration, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. I am committed and passionate about the triple bottom line business concept to ensure that the organisation balances people, planet, and profit when shaping its future.
