About Melanie Decker

I am responsible for providing professional administrative, technical, and creative assistance to the Board of Directors for the VA Chapter of HIMSS. In the capacity of Event management, I am responsible for the project management to the creation and development of all chapter events such as the Annual Fall Conference, Regional Events, Advocacy Day, Mid-Atlantic Networking Reception and our SIG's (Special Interests Groups). I am responsible for identifying the target audience, devising the event concept, planning the logistics and coordinating the technical aspects before actually launching the event. The process of planning and coordinating the event typically includes budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring speakers/panelists, catering and emergency plans. In addition, I am responsible for marketing the event, creating and managing the website/registration for the event, communicating with attendees and participants, building business relationships and raising the funds required to host the event. I construct, coordinate and present our Annual Sponsorship opportunities. As the Executive Assistant for the VA Chapter of HIMSS Board of Directors, I consistently work to support the management of the board executives, while using a variety of project management, communication and organizational skills. I am responsible for handling all correspondences within our chapter, including assisting members, and organizing official meetings and events.
