About Melanie Deek

Melanie is an AHPRA Registered Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She completed her Honours Degree of the Bachelor of Psychology at Flinders University and was awarded First Class. Melanie is currently completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a research interest in the area of eating behaviour and body image. More specifically, her research involves investigating sociocultural influences (i.e, mothers, sisters) of body image and eating behaviour outcomes in young women within Australia and the Middle-East. In particular, by exploring potential protective factors which may mitigate the intergenerational transmission of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating.In terms of her clinical role as a Psychologist, Melanie is committed to providing evidence-based therapies with a background in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), alongside Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approaches. She has worked across a range of settings with children and young people, alongside their families, in addition to adults across the lifespan, presenting with a wide range of psychological concerns. Melanie is a passionate advocate for client-centred care and collaborative practice.
