About Melinda Murphy

I'm a turnaround expert and a storyteller. Through my own company, Planet Murph, I'm currently working with two different organizations as the General Manager of the American Association of Singapore (AAS) and the Senior Media Trainer for VanMedia Group. As the GM of AAS, I oversee all aspects of the century-old organization from budgets to staff to events and am responsible for securing sponsors. The organization has experienced a rebirth since I came on board in April 2021. As a Senior Media Trainer, I work with top level executives across Singapore pulling from my background as seasoned, multi-faceted, award-winning journalist. I spent more than twenty years in the media industry in New York, Los Angeles and Singapore. I've worn many hats: On-Camera Talent, Writer, Executive Producer, Editor-in-Chief, Communications Manager, Digital Communications Manager, Talent Booker and more. In 2018, I was recognized by the Media Publishers Association of Singapore as the "Journalist of the Year" for my work at Expat Living magazine. As Editor-in-Chief of the Singapore American newspaper, I oversaw all aspects of the monthly newspaper. Wearing my twin hat as Communications Manager for AAS, I managed the non-profit's social media, website and advertising. I also oversaw the complete redesign of the company's website, edited a book for the organization and created a very successful charity campaign. During my stint as a correspondent at CBS News, I developed one of the widest ranges at the network, filing feature, hard-hitting and breaking news stories. I traveled the US, primarily doing feature stories for the network's national morning show. I came to CBS from New York's WB11 where I won an EMMY for my 9/11 one-year anniversary piece, highlighting my own coverage of the events in New York. I was also nominated for an EMMY for my work that day. I'm a passionate volunteer, often described as an "evangelist" for the organizations in which I believe. I have a gift for recruiting and motivating volunteers. Under my leadership as Chair, the Girl Scouts saw a rebirth in Singapore. Within two years, the organization went from the brink of folding to winning an award for excellence given to only three overseas groups. I'm also a Global Facilitator for Girl Scouts, training leaders across Asia and I sit on the Council of Advisors of USA Girl Scouts Overseas, serving girls in 90+ countries. With a background in sales and event planning, I'm also good at planning and executing events for hundreds.
