About Melissa Adey

In 2023, I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration - majoring in Human Resource Management. I also hold an Associate of Arts Degree through Coffeyville Community Junior College. I graduated the Leadership Independence program in May of 2019. My Current Certifications include: EPD, EFD and EMD through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch; ED-Q (QA) through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch; APCO PST1 7th Edition; APCO PST1 7th Edition Instructor; APCO Communications Training Officer; APCO Dispatch Supervisor; Terminal Agency Coordinator for Independence PD; NCIC Full Certification. I was hired as a Dispatcher/Records Clerk I at Independence, KS Police Department in 1996. I was promoted to Lead Dispatcher in 2001 until I left the PD in 2004. I subsequently began working part-time as a court recorder for the Montgomery County Judicial Center until 2005. I invited back to the Independence Police Department as part-time and was working both jobs for a short time. In 2005, I left the Judicial Center and went back to IPD as a permanent part-time dispatcher. I was once again offered promotion but declined, as I was not interested in a full-time position. I finally changed my status to full-time in 2011 and accepted a Dispatch Supervisor position in 2014. Our department was re-structured in 2016 and the Dispatch Supervisor duties were shifted elsewhere, at which time, my job title was amended to Dispatcher II. In August of 2018, I was once again promoted to Lead Dispatcher and, March of 2019, I was promoted to Dispatch/Records Supervisor. I will be retiring in 2024 and am looking forward to a new journey. My ultimate goal is to become an instructor, possibly in the telecommunication field and, preferably, in Europe, where I would like to live after retirement. I am also considering learning a 2nd language in order to broaden my horizons.
