About Melissa Albert

When I started in paralegal school, I had an interest in working in adoptions as there had been several high profile adoptions in the media that year. I had an instructor tell me once that,"You don't choose your area of law, it chooses you." It wasn't long before I discovered just how true that quote was. I never worked in adoptions. My real passion and my real strengths in the legal world are in litigation, and I have spent my entire career there. Loving every part of it. In my nearly 20 year career, I have handled all aspects of the process, both plaintiff and defense. I've drafted complaints, answers, motions, discovery requests and responses, to name just a few. As a puzzle person, I enjoy doing discovery and document reviews. It's the same challenge of working a jigsaw puzzle without an image and the same thrill when all the pieces fit into place and a whole image forms. Litigation, does say much though. I started my career in real property handling eminent domain matters, and really launched from there working in employment litigation, insurance defense and business defense. In recent years I've come full circle and returned to real property handling title curative matters. In some ways litigation work is an opportunity to see a part of the world that wouldn't ordinarily get to see. It affords me the opportunities to learn about the worlds that my clients live in. It's sometimes educational, sometimes confusing but always fascinating.
