About Melissa Chapman Haynes

Over the past two decades I have been trusted in several leadership positions that have included strategic leadership, operations, community development, strategic planning and visioning, business strategy development and implementation, and development of process and operational systems. Using a collaborative leadership approach, I attend to both process and outcomes, ensuring to stay focused on an organization's mission, vision, values, and priorities. I love to figure out creative and feasible ways to bring different voices together to create a new strategy, pathway, or initiative! I take a principled approach to where I spend my energy, grounded in personal values that align with those of my professional role and organization. My personal principles are rooted in transparency, empathy, loyalty, social justice, listening, and strategic action. In multiple settings and contexts, I have a proven track record of being productive in any environment, consistently driven by a deep commitment and a clear north star of social justice and equity, with a track record of action. Since 2002, I have led and managed external program and policy evaluations of projects in various sectors, including public health, PK-12 education, higher education, human services, and the arts. My primary focus over the past decade has been on evaluating public health programs and policies, including in the areas of tobacco control, chronic disease, healthy eating and active living (HEAL), community health, reproductive health, respiratory health, quality improvement initiatives, medical education, nutrition, and comprehensive cancer control. I have experience co-writing equity statements with partners, incorporating racial, disability, and/or gender justice into evaluations and strategic plans, mission, and vision statements. In my current role, I collaborated with external consultants to create our first strategic plan and, previously, to establish our company's values. I have also led strategic planning for multiple programs. Additionally, I have experience teaching and facilitating sessions on topics related to program evaluation and research approaches, suitable for both new and experienced practitioners. I have also led professional development sessions for medical providers, philanthropy, non-profits, and academic communities.I am committed to the late Senator Paul Wellstone's famous saying:"We all do better when we all do better."
